In this essay we would like to propose some reflections on prejudices and commonplaces, especially those regarding languages and everything that has to do with languages. We will show how prejudices and negative commonplaces in the linguistic field are combined with other types of discriminatory preconceptions (such as the social and the racial ones) and how they are widespread not only among ignorant individuals, but also among cultivated ones (in a more subtle - and therefore more dangerous - form). We will maintain in the end that it is very important to overcome linguistic prejudices in order to promote peace and justice in every local or national community and in international relations.
