The article examines the German-speaking schools in Rome as places of socialisation for speakers of German-speaking background. It also deals with the history and philosophy of the two German-speaking schools, the Deutsche Schule Rom and the Schweizer Schule Rom. German as a heritage language in Italy, more precisely in Rome, is a topic that has not yet been fully explored. Therefore, it is important to document the situation at the two large German-speaking schools in Rome. The influence of these schools on the preservation of German as a heritage language is undisputed, but due to the high school fees, it is limited to the more affluent classes. It would therefore be desirable to strengthen the German language with more affordable alternatives.
