Literature has never ceased to relate to the world of photography: now imitating it, now criticising it, now appropriating it or marking its difference. After identifying some major paradigms that have been established in the long history of the reception of photography in literary discourse, the investigation focuses on a small 'canon' of contemporary authors: Roland Barthes, Rolf Dieter Brinkmann, Julio Cortazar, W. G. Sebald.
