At the turn of the Republic and the early Empire, the funerary landscape of Rome and the Roman world rapidly developed new and varied monumental forms; this phenomenon profoundly affected the ancient landscape, marking the collective memory even beyond the end of the phenomenon itself, to the present day. In this contribution, emphasis is placed on the case of Gaeta, where the representative needs of two figures belonging to the elite of the period illustrate well the forms and intentions that characterized that brief period, bound to mark the surrounding landscape for centuries.

Abstract
At the turn of the Republic and the early Empire, the funerary landscape of Rome and the Roman world rapidly developed new and varied monumental forms; this phenomenon profoundly affected the ancient landscape, marking the collective memory even beyond the end of the phenomenon itself, to the present day. In this contribution, emphasis is placed on the case of Gaeta, where the representative needs of two figures belonging to the elite of the period illustrate well the forms and intentions that characterized that brief period, bound to mark the surrounding landscape for centuries.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
