Moldavia e Transnistria. Una storia tra Russia e Occidente

In the complex landscape of Southeast Europe, the events unfolding in Moldova take on a unique significance, having long since transcended mere local concerns. The Moldovan state has, in fact, become—willingly or not—a frontier of Europe, contested both internally and externally between those who would like to anchor it permanently within the EU and those who, on the contrary, aim to keep it within Russia’s political and cultural sphere of influence. The book traces the historical events of this troubled region, from the first Tsarist annexation in 1812, and then especially throughout the 20th century, up to the recent parliamentary elections. A unique case in the European geopolitical landscape, also given the country’s complex ethnic and linguistic makeup and the thorny issue of Transnistria.
