This essay stems from a simple question. In a sense, it is coextensive with the wonder triggered by a phenomenal experience. The question is: why do polyrhythms generate perceptions (and even a cognitive, immediately embodied feeling) of open spaciousness? However, another corollary question seems to be closely related: is there a connection underlying the interaction between different rhythms in time, the simultaneous perception of open spatiality (or spaciousness) and the dynamic determinacy/indeterminacy inherent in the emergence of experiential meaning? And, still, do polyrhythms—if approached in this way—give any hint of a possible interaction between the process of meaning-making and metamorphosis? A question that could be further summarized as follows: is there a real distinction between the ‘signifying’ and metamorphosis? By and large, this essay is aimed at investigating the connections between metamorphosis and polyrhythm in relation to the production of meaning, including some final remarks on the unfolding of legal experience.
