The quality of teaching and the development of digital skills among teachers and students are increasingly important in contemporary society, particularly in addressing functional and emotional illiteracy and inequalities in access to education. The DIG4LIFE project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, aims to improve teaching quality and digital competences through innovative educational tools and participatory methodologies. This paper presents the co-design process of the DIG4LIFE Serious Game, an interactive digital simulation designed to support the assessment and development of students’ digital skills and digital maturity, based on the DigComp framework. The process involved teachers from different European countries in collaborative activities, including competence analysis, scenario development, storyboarding and prototype refinement. Through a combination of synchronous workshops and asynchronous activities, teachers contributed their professional knowledge and experience to the design of a learning tool tailored to students’ educational needs. The paper highlights the potential of co-design and gamified learning to foster self-assessment, active participation, collaboration and reflective learning, while supporting teachers’ professional development and the transferability of innovative educational practices.
