We determine the amount of power of a focused axially symmetric flattened Gaussian beam that falls on a circle of given radius centered on the optical axis. We show that, within the paraxial approximation, such quantity can be exactly evaluated for any choice of the beam parameters by means of a recursive formula and give numerical examples.

Abstract
