The distribution patterns of the Near East Fauna were identified on the ground of their geographic range patterns. By the comparison of the ranges of ca.3000 terrestrial and freshwater species, a classification of chorotypes is proposed. The Near East chorotypes obtained are analyzed in the context of the Western Palaearctic Fauna with the same method used in a previous research focused on the Italian fauna by the same team in 1993. The map (chorotype model) of each distribution pattern is illustrated and discussed.

Abstract

The distribution patterns of the Near East Fauna were identified on the ground of their geographic range patterns. By the comparison of the ranges of ca.3000 terrestrial and freshwater species, a classification of chorotypes is proposed. The Near East chorotypes obtained are analyzed in the context of the Western Palaearctic Fauna with the same method used in a previous research focused on the Italian fauna by the same team in 1993. The map (chorotype model) of each distribution pattern is illustrated and discussed.
