This article focuses on mediation as an integral and communicative competence in the teaching of German as a foreign language. After an introduction to the main issues, we propose a concept for teaching and training in Mediation in the acquisition of German as a foreign language at Italian universities, from the first steps (A1) on based on Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) guidelines. The article aims to motivate didactic and methodological reflection on mediation and demonstrates how it can be embedded in language teaching, also supporting the language acquisition process.
