Starting from Taylor’s observation on Plato’s Cratylus: «What is of real interest to others than specialists in phonetics is the discernment shown by the insistence on the general principle that speech is to be regarded as a species of mimetic gesture», the issue analyzes 422e ss.to re-consider, in the light of the dialogue between Socrates and Hermogenes, the rule to be assigned to mimesis in educational reflectionand praxis, with a particular emphasis on nonverbal communication as a paradoxical way to show the nature of things.
