Il saggio discute i temi che si intrecciano attorno ad una delle più famose fotografie della guerra del Vietnam, Napalm Girl, del fotografo sudvietnamita Nick Ut nel 1972. Fin dall'inizio la foto suscitò effetti patemici. Nella vicenda di questo scatto tempo e spazio si aggrovigliano in modo inestricabile. La foto in effetti è il frutto di una miscela di cooperazione e competizione con altri fotografi e operatori TV, e può essere compresa soltanto esaminando le contestuali produzioni di altri operatori presenti sul posto.
