This article considers what role the idea of the subject might play today in contemporary sociological theory and the social sciences. Taking into account a selection of ethnomethodological approaches, it argues for a sociological and anthropological perspective that focuses not on the individuation of strategies for the development of the ‘free individual’ capable of resisting domination, but rather on the description of social interactions. This, the article suggests, can be key to illustrating the modalities through which social life is concretely manifested.

Abstract
This article considers what role the idea of the subject might play today in contemporary sociological theory and the social sciences. Taking into account a selection of ethnomethodological approaches, it argues for a sociological and anthropological perspective that focuses not on the individuation of strategies for the development of the ‘free individual’ capable of resisting domination, but rather on the description of social interactions. This, the article suggests, can be key to illustrating the modalities through which social life is concretely manifested.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
