The Astro-Scienze project is based on cooperative learning strategies in the natural sciences using astronomy as the key to the interdisciplinary didactics of biology, geology, mathematics and physics. It was carried out in some middle schools in Roma and Lazio during school years 2003-04 and 2004-05. The main stages were (a) a cycle of pupil-directed lessons and practical activities on aspects of natural sciences that generally are not covered in the usual classroom approach; (b) teacher seminars for developing new methods and strategies, based on the activities in (a). We analyse the open answers to a questionnaire answered in 2003-04 by 1600 pupils. The preliminary results of the closed answers will be analysed in the next issue of this journal.
