The third edition of the workshop on "Metamaterials and Special Materials for Electromagnetic Applications and Telecommunications" took place in Rome, Italy, March 30-31, 2006, in the main hall of University "Roma Tre" (Figure 1). It was organized by University Roma Tre in cooperation with the University of Florence, the University of Sannio, the Institute of Applied Physics "Nello Carrara" of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), with the financial support of METAMORPHOSE, the Network of Excellence (NoE) established in 2004 and leading European research on metamaterials. The workshop enjoyed technical co-sponsorship from IEEE Region 8 and the IEEE AP/MTT Italian Joint Chapter, together with the support of EOARD.
