Urbanità e resistenza

Urbanity and resistance - The research on public space is characterized by four different concepts: first, the equivalence between public space and public sphere, directly impinging upon politics; second, the history and construction of social identities, where memory plays a central role; third, the encounter with strangers that should educate to tolerance; fourth, the practice of living together, at the foundation both of urbanity and civil respect. The first three concepts state that public space is eroded, due to the privatization of the public sphere. The last one criticizes this belief, and suggests instead investigating the field of practices that combine resistance to urban change, and the experimentation of new forms of urbanity.

Gli studi sullo spazio pubblico sono ricondotti a quattro referenti: l’equivalenza tra spazio e sfera pubblica con un nesso diretto con la politi-ca; la storia e costruzione delle identità dove la memoria gioca un ruolo centrale; l’incontro con gli estranei che dovrebbe educare alla tolleranza; la pratica e il sapere della convivenza che fonda l’idea di urbanità e rispetto civile. I primi tre concetti sostengono che lo spazio pubblico sia eroso dalla privatizzazione della sfera pubblica. L’ultimo critica questa convinzione, e suggerisce invece di indagare il campo di pratiche che combinano la resi-stenza al cambiamento e la sperimentazione di nuove forme di urbanità.
