Abstract

A recently proposed algorithm for the determination of the modal power distribution inside a stable multimode laser cavity is applied to the case of a flat-topped transverse intensity beam profile. We show that such a technique leads to closed-form expressions for the modal weights and for the M-2 factor of the output beam. Comparisons with experimental results present in literature are also reported.
