Hans Jonas'ethics of responsability, within the context of the revival of interest in ethical questions, has been one of the terms of reference in the dialogue between the positions of an analytical and those of a metaphysical character. Jonas is seen somewaht too generically as being neo-Aristotelian. In addition to Aristotle, Jonas' approach, in the distinction between the ethics of 'responsability' and the ethics of 'intention', goes back to the 'typological' formulations of Max Weber, and always has a theoretical debt to his 'mentor' Heidegger. In the end, Jonas' ethics of responsability is an approach, with its own original solution, to the relationship between knowledge and action, between theory and practice, between 'being' and 'having to be', and between metaphysic and ethics. This paper also dwells upon the role of the idea of creation in Jonas' thought.
