The earthquakes that hit the Italian territory in the last four centuries (from eastern Sicily in 1693 to the most recent of April 6, 2009) are very often been the occasion for an attempt rethinking of the urban structure of the historic city centers damaged. The condition of the urban fabric and the main cause of destruction is the product of a prolonged historical stratification. It seems that the decision of leaving or not the historic city centers have certainly affected by the amount of damages but also by their historical and symbolic value, as well as the willingness of people to preserve the continuity of life in the old sites, although destroyed, still full of memories. The essay takes back a few studies conducted in the past and recounts some experience, without pretending to exhaust the subject, sometimes to focus on the most appropriate methodology for a proper and acceptable reconstruction of the urban fabric damaged by earthquakes.

Abstract
The essay takes back a few studies conducted in the past and recounts some experience, without pretending to exhaust the subject, sometimes to focus on the most appropriate methodology for a proper and acceptable reconstruction of the urban fabric damaged by earthquakes.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
