The author examines the theory of intentionality from the perspective of John Searle's "speech acts" in order to explore the meaning of language wich can be derived from his concept of "promise". The general purpose of the essay, however, is to evaluate the relevance of these notions in an intersubjective theory of language. The author wants to explore the problem of intersujectivity in Husserl's conception of "meaning" and the reasons why Husserl's concept of meaning is founded on "insight" and not on intersubjective communication
