This paper aims to signal the relevance of retranslation to AVT research and to examine the phenomenon of redubbing in particular. The term refers to a second or subsequent dubbed version of the same audiovisual product in the same target language. The phenomenon of redubbing has proliferated with the rapid expansion of the home video market and has now reached considerable proportions. And yet redubs have been touched upon if only rarely and sparingly by screen translation scholars. This paper aims to signal the importance of retranslation in AVT studies and to provide a preliminary discussion of the reasons behind redubbing, the relation between first and subsequent translations, as well as the factors and agents involved.

Abstract
This paper aims to signal the relevance of retranslation to AVT research and to examine the phenomenon of redubbing in particular. The term refers to a second or subsequent dubbed version of the same audiovisual product in the same target language. The phenomenon of redubbing has proliferated with the rapid expansion of the home video market and has now reached considerable proportions. And yet redubs have been touched upon if only rarely and sparingly by screen translation scholars. This paper aims to signal the importance of retranslation in AVT studies and to provide a preliminary discussion of the reasons behind redubbing, the relation between first and subsequent translations, as well as the factors and agents involved.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
