In the last decades the wine market has deeply changed both at the supply- and the demand-side level, going through a period of significant structural transformations. The result of such a process is the emergence of an enlarged business environment with new features and dynamics as well as competition rules. The chapter aims to illustrate these changes, emphasizing the emergence of new competitors that threaten the long-lasting dominance of incumbents. Both global wine production and consumption structures and trends are investigated. The final part is devoted to deepen the characteristics of the Italian wine industry.

Abstract
In the last decades the wine market has deeply changed both at the supply- and the demand-side level, going through a period of significant structural transformations. The result of such a process is the emergence of an enlarged business environment with new features and dynamics as well as competition rules. The chapter aims to illustrate these changes, emphasizing the emergence of new competitors that threaten the long-lasting dominance of incumbents. Both global wine production and consumption structures and trends are investigated. The final part is devoted to deepen the characteristics of the Italian wine industry.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
