Maria Montessori (Italy, 1870-1952) and Jean Piaget ( Switzerland , 1896-1980) are outstanding and world famous figures in the fields of education and of developmental psychology. The purpose of our study was to conduct a historical and comparative analysis of the converging interests of Montessori and Piaget for peace education , which they expressed in two international meetings ( 1932,1934) and in a number of written works. Special attention will be paid to the very different political and social backgrounds in which their interest for peace education was fostered.
