In this paper, I inquire into the possibility or legitimacy of the edu- cational role of the State by comparing Carl Schmitt’s political theory, with the theory of his reviewer, Leo Strauss. The two philosophers reveal the Hobbesian root of the concept of the Political (friend-enemy). Thus, evil can be understood as the excess of power or metaphysical corruption. Although Schmitt and Strauss differ on the interpretation of liberalism, they both seek to overcome it. If evil and sin are proper of men, the kantian rational morality is insufficient; Schmitt’s “political theology” states a plus, since he enroots the concept of the Political in the concepts of the Moral and Religious.
