The late XVIth century theatre proves to be specially interested in dramatic use of historical episodes, both of ancient and national history. Looking at the theatral production of the period from this angle, artificial differences between tragedians (interested in History) and younger dramatists that launch the Comedia Nueva formula will fade out. Cervantes’s “first period” dramatic production is a good example of the continuous experimentation that is typical of the late XVIth century theatre: it presents a wide range of historical dramatizations, from ancient history to the very latest one, and of dramatic formulas, from senequian tragedy to historical comedy with an important love plot.

Abstract
The late XVIth century theatre proves to be specially interested in dramatic use of historical episodes, both of ancient and national history. Looking at the theatral production of the period from this angle, artificial differences between tragedians (interested in History) and younger dramatists that launch the Comedia Nueva formula will fade out. Cervantes’s “first period” dramatic production is a good example of the continuous experimentation that is typical of the late XVIth century theatre: it presents a wide range of historical dramatizations, from ancient history to the very latest one, and of dramatic formulas, from senequian tragedy to historical comedy with an important love plot.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
