A new approach to real time estimation of false plot probabilities of a surveillance system in the presence of clutter residual is presented. Starting from a system model based on martingale difference sequence theory, the optimal estimator and the suboptimal linear estimator in the minimum mean squared error (MMSE) sense are derived. A comparison of the two estimators based on simulation results shows that the linear solution can be very attractive when the small performance degradation is compared to the lower complexity.

Abstract

A new approach to real time estimation of false plot probabilities of a surveillance system in the presence of clutter residual is presented. Starting from a system model based on martingale difference sequence theory, the optimal estimator and the suboptimal linear estimator in the minimum mean squared error (MMSE) sense are derived. A comparison of the two estimators based on simulation results shows that the linear solution can be very attractive when the small performance degradation is compared to the lower complexity.
