Almost one hundred and forty years have elapsed since the foundation of the Museum of Instruction and Education (1874), and the historiography of the museum’s institution still has to tackle the disper-sion of its important heritage. On the basis of the recent archival research carried out at the Central Ar-chive of the State and the Italian Geographical Society, the aim of this paper is to make an original con-tribution to the reconstruction of the events related to the suppression of the “Giornale del Museo d’Istruzione e di Educazione” (1876) and to the resignation of the geographer Giuseppe Dalla Vedova from the direction of the museum Institute (1877).

Abstract
