During the Fifteenth century, the Roman Curia increasingly exploited the Chancery Rules’ instrument to discipline the administration of the universal ecclesiastical patrimony. The new prominence that these sources took on within the Church did not pass unnoticed to a restricted circle of rotal auditors, who took care of clarifying the nature of the regulae cancellariae in the light of the interpretative categories of ius commune.
