English Abstract: The article suggests that contemporary judicial history is a growing area of academic and research interest which requires the joint effort of historians, lawyers (not only experts in criminal law, but also in private and business law), and archivists. The issue is the object of considerable debate in most European countries which are investigating not very distant events (terrorism, civil war, post-dictatorship) events. Judicial archives, and their preservation, are one of the main sources but require scientific methodologies and expertise coupled with a profound knowledge of the judicial machinery.
