The dignity of birth and the prohibition of the uterus for rent. The essay examines the concept of human dignity as the basis of human rights. The author asks himself about the possibility of invoking the dignity not only in cases where it is necessary to protect people's lives but also as a general principle that can guide the personal choices when they affect and have consequences on the legal position of the other. The respect for human dignity is then invoked in order to justify the prohibition of the uterus for rent (surrogate motherhood), by providing additional topics to understand the reasoning of the European Court of Human Rights.
