In this correspondence, a novel spectrum sensing technique is proposed for primary user (PU) signals transmitted with constant energy. A new metric, namely the variance of the received signal energy, is first introduced and then used as the testing variable for detecting the PU signal. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by means of theoretical analysis and simulations in the presence of noise uncertainty. The results confirm the efficiency of our method for fast and reliable primary users' detection in cognitive radio systems.

Abstract
In this correspondence, a novel spectrum sensing technique is proposed for primary user (PU) signals transmitted with constant energy. A new metric, namely the variance of the received signal energy, is first introduced and then used as the testing variable for detecting the PU signal. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by means of theoretical analysis and simulations in the presence of noise uncertainty. The results confirm the efficiency of our method for fast and reliable primary users' detection in cognitive radio systems.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
