Founded by Ruggiero Bonghi and directed by Giuseppe Dalla Vedova (1875-1876), the «Giornale del Museo d’Istruzione e di Educazione » is one of the less studied pedagogical and educational journals. The aim of this paper is to offer a contribution to the reconstruction of the museum’s history and of its journal: its foundation, purposes, editorial policy, contents. About the contents of the «Giornale», we focused our attention on comparative studies and on the contribution made by the museum’s periodical – after the unification of Italy – to the process of freeing pedagogical and educational knowledge from provincialism.
