The European Professional Card (EPC) is a new mechanism of administrative cooperation which makes use of the latest technologies to facilitate mobility of professionals in Europe. In particular, the EPC (introduced with Directive 2013/ 55/EU amending Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications) is an electronic document issued through the Internal Market Information System (IMI) to professionals interested in working in another member State (MS). This article analyses the EPC having particular regard to its procedures, its legal background and its relation with IMI. In the final part, some conclusions are drawn as to the effectiveness of the mechanism.
