The National Plan for Digital School, as part of the Law 107/2015 dedicated to the reform of the Italian national education and training system, was conceived with the aim of proposing «a new positioning of the school education system in the digital age». Although the application of the Plan has been characterized since the beginning by many critical issues, its theoretical and operational policies reveal an overall elaboration aimed at systematizing a structured and unprecedented school innovation strategy. In an attempt to bring the Italian school in line with the objectives of the European and international recommendations, the Plan reveals the efforts made by the legislator to take into account reflections and acquisitions coming from the research areas of mediology and media education.

Abstract
