The aqueduct of San Lorenzo dell’Amaseno, dating back to the 2nd century AD and located in southern Lazio, used to guarantee the water supply to the city of Terracina. Due to the process of deterritorialization that involved the area during the Middle Ages, the duct was deprived of the maintenance needed and started towards gradual decay. It is only with the resumption of hydraulic interventions in the area Pontina in the late modern age that a restoration has been planned in order to bring it back to its original function. This contribution aims to reconstruct the events related to the aqueduct and identify its history through the analysis of geo-historical sources and, specifically, cartography. The survey of the aqueduct is part of a wider geo-theoretical research, supported by a long field work carried out with the help of geographical information technologies, which has allowed to reconstruct the actual historical path, identify the archaeological heritage still visible, assess the state of conservation and develop proposals for ecotourism use.
