L'ecfrasis nella Commedia. La tecnica descrittiva di Dante in rapporto con le fonti classiche

The paper proposes some reflections on two aspects of Dante's Comedy related to the rhetorical figure of the ecfrasis - understood as a poetic description of an artistic artifact -: after retracing the ways in which the ecfrasis was codified in late antiquity and in the Middle Ages in the rhetorical handbooks, and reconstructed the relationship between the philosophical reflection on imagination and memory and the normative concerning descriptions, it investigates Dante's relationship with the poetic models he was inspired by for the images of poem spread around his entry into the realm of Purgatory (cantos X-XII).

L’intervento propone alcune riflessioni su due aspetti della Commedia di Dante connessi alla figura retorica dell’ecfrasis – intesa come descrizione poetica di un manufatto artistico -: dopo aver ripercorso i modi in cui l’ecfrasis è stata codificata nella tarda antichità e nel medioevo nella precettistica retorica, e ricostruito il rapporto tra la riflessione filosofica sull’immaginazione e la memoria e la normativa relativa alle descrizioni, indaga il rapporto di Dante con i modelli poetici ai quali si è ispirato nella produzione delle immagini che nel poema costellano il suo ingresso nel regno del Purgatorio (canti X-XII).
