Global Cities: Zygmunt Bauman and the Destiny of Contemporary Metropolis The topic of cities is not new in the reflections of Zygmunt Bauman. The focus on the metropolis and its continuous transformations is cen‐ tral in many of his writings. If it is true that cities have always been con‐ sidered places of rapid and increasing change, it is also true that the transformations that urban life has undergone in recent decades have no precedents in the course of history. Having taken this into consideration, the Polish sociologist highlights the complex mechanisms that make our cities and its inhabitants increasingly closed, inhospitable and unable to trust others.
