Donne e carriere nel campo accademico. Il caso di Ingegneria all’Università di Napoli

This essay focuses on female careers in the University, particularly in Engineering. Gender differences are evident. Statistics show low percentage of women in high and power academic roles. Moreover, regarding the distribution of teachers in specific disciplines, women are concentrating in disciplinary sectors that are considered to be weak on the basis of the organizational logics that have been legitimated by recent reforms. The hypothesis that women’s stories can build specific gendered relations in particular social and organizational conditions has directed the research on teachers in the Faculty of Engineering in Naples as case study. The results of the empirical research support the hypothesis and find, particularly, the connection between gender and specific disciplines, in respect of choices and commitment.
