The higher official profile educational professionals gained in Italy over the last two years challenges us to revise the function of the curricular internship for degree courses in Educational Sciences. The necessity to reconsider this element of practical-educational activity seems inextricably linked with the need to work on the perception and formation of a professional identity for the socio-pedagogical educator. The article, retracing some of the literature's contributions on this issue, illustrates the characteristic parameters that define the basic profile of a profession, to then deepen their implications for a possible training proposal concerning the organization of the curricular internship aimed at promoting the development of the professional self in every student.

Abstract
