'I like to think instead': percorsi di dissidenza nella poesia di Ingrid de Kok

The aim of this article is to explore strategies of significance in the lyrics of the South African poet Ingrid de Kok. I will be analysing the way she deals with the history of South Africa in various collections of poetry with the aid of some of her essays. I will particularly focus on the difficult balance between collective and personal ethos in her works, highlighting her linguistic search for creative spaces not colonized by the widespread and still racially loaded ideologies of her country. One of the main features in de Kok’s poetry, I believe, is her capacity to allow opposing realities to coexist. My article will deal with the notion of juxtaposition the way it surfaces in her poems.
