L’Ungheria, gli ungheresi e Galeazzo Ciano

Despite its limitations, the Diary of Galeazzo Ciano represents a good source for the knowledge of the Italo-Hungarian relations from the end of the Thirties up to the beginning of 1943. In this paper, it is interesting to discuss, through its reading, these following crucial themes. The relationship of both Italy and of Hungary with the German ally, not too beloved. The possibility that Rome and Budapest (perhaps with the collaboration of other governments) could create an alternative to maintaining an effectively subordinated relationship with Germany, especially when this seemed on the road of the military catastrophe. The project to tie Hungary and Italy through the figure of an Italian monarch to be placed on the Hungarian throne. Obviously, only a comparison with documentation and data coming from other sources can avoid misinterpretation and verify the reliability of the pages written by Ciano.
