Handwriting seems to be a declining ability. When, in the second half of the 19th century, Italy was reunited, many school laws focussed on how to properly teach handwriting. As the decades went on, such rules became less and less strict, thus encouraging teachers to take on the responsibility of choosing the most appropriate methods and tools to teach handwriting. However, recent data show that the number of students with handwriting difficulties, often diagnosed with dysgraphia, is rapidly increasing. In order to cope, at least partially, with this arising problem, a new profession is emerging, whose tasks and activities have been recently standardised. The current paper aims at describing the normative, educational and professional aspects of this new profession, the handwriting educator.
La scrittura manuale sembra una abilità destinata a estinguersi. L’attenzione del legislatore, che nei decenni successivi all’unità d’Italia era fortemente concentrata su molteplici aspetti della didattica della scrittura, oggi si è gradualmente ridotta, demandando agli insegnanti il compito di individuare metodi e strumenti per insegnare a scrivere a mano. Eppure i dati più recenti mostrano un incremento molto elevato del numero di allievi con difficoltà di scrittura, spesso con diagnosi di disgrafia. Per il recupero, almeno parziale, di questo tipo di difficoltà, è emersa una nuova figura professionale, i cui compiti e attività solo di recente sono stati sistematizzati attraverso una norma tecnica. Il contributo intende fornire una prima panoramica sugli aspetti normativi, formativi e professionali dell’educatore del gesto grafico.
