The meaning of public space in the contemporary city has profoundly changed. This is no longer a value “in itself”, but it is subordinate to other programs. This fact changes the character of the public space and its morphology. It is therefore necessary to reflect on the new forms that public space assumes, and to search for a new and adequate repertoire for these forms. For example, in cities, the forms of contemporary mobility become an opportunity for spaces and places for socializing. Crossing, descending, connecting and stopping are actions that need adequate space. The case of the Amba Aradam-Ipponio Metro C station makes use of some previous experiences in terms of new spatiality. This project is an example of a possible integration and mutual enrichment between mobility, permanence and use of the material signs of history. In this project, in its variants, it seems that the architectural project and the archaeological excavation follow and modify each other, according to an adaptive process. Is there a “new nature” for the architectural project? Certainly the project goes beyond the forms and aporias of contemporary complexity, it “chases” the excavation, becomes a ductile and adaptive tool to accommodate the incessant spatial and content variations of the context. In this project, therefore, urban space, square, archaeological museum, and mobility equipment intertwine, and re-tie the threads of a dialogue with a marginal and little-known context.
