This paper deals with the typically postmodern transformism of Carter’s production by focusing on the relationship between the short story and screenplay versions of Gun for the Devil. By considering their common dynamics of reversal and trespassing, it illustrates the specifically transforming, hence “diabolical” quality of both content and form, and suggests a possible drawback.
