The essay provides an original interpretation of the matrices and developments of the New Left in Western Europe in the 1960s. Through the untold story of the «Revue Internationale du Socialisme - International Socialist Journal» and its large network of transnational relations, it highlights the role played by European left-wing socialism in the formation of a New political left. It reconstructs the attempt of the New Socialist Left to renew the theoretical heritage of Marxism and to propose itself as an alternative political project to the social democratic and communist models.
