The phenomenon of implicit biases is widely discussed in the context of the empirical research on social cognition. The issue of both the origin of such biases and their possible remedies has been interpreted through either a psychologicalindividualist or a socio-structural lens. Recently, however, several authors have stressed how the problem can be better addressed adopting a mixed approach, which considers the individual and the socio-structural dimensions as complementary rather than in opposition. Starting from this integrated perspective, we focus on the role and moral responsibilities attributable to individuals for acting on their implicit biases and the weight that the social and epistemic environment may have in guiding their behaviour.

Abstract
The phenomenon of implicit biases is widely discussed in the context of the empirical research on social cognition. The issue of both the origin of such biases and their possible remedies has been interpreted through either a psychologicalindividualist or a socio-structural lens. Recently, however, several authors have stressed how the problem can be better addressed adopting a mixed approach, which considers the individual and the socio-structural dimensions as complementary rather than in opposition. Starting from this integrated perspective, we focus on the role and moral responsibilities attributable to individuals for acting on their implicit biases and the weight that the social and epistemic environment may have in guiding their behaviour.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
