The contribution traces, through the lens of “private authorities”, the evolution of European policies on sustainability and corporate social responsibility. The analysis notes a constant use of hybrid regulation techniques, whose fluctuating mix between extensions and restrictions of private powers, however, cannot ignore their significant involvement in decision-making and rule-making processes.
