“Mio Dio, aiutami a sopravvivere a questo amore mortale”. John Adams, Robert Coover, Philip K. Dick e lo spazio di storicità della Guerra Fredda

The paper looks at three texts that come from three different cultural contexts – main-stream, cultured music, “pulp” – and adopt three different representational strategies in tackling the theme of the Cold War: narrative transfiguration, dramatization, indi-rect mimesis. The main aim of this paper is to examine the entanglement between the Cold War representation and the representation of history. It therefore discusses the works of John Adams, Robert Coover and Philip K. Dick against the background of Lukács’ lasting contributions to the historical novel, Koselleck’s theories of historical times and Lyotard’s analysis of metanarratives

L’articolo presenta tre opere provenienti da tre contesti culturali diversi – mainstream, musica colta, “pulp” – che adottano tre strategie rappresentative differenti nell’affron-tare il tema della Guerra Fredda: trasfigurazione narrativa, drammatizzazione, mimesi indiretta. Osservando la rappresentazione della Guerra Fredda in rapporto con la rap-presentazione della storia l’articolo discute le opere di John Adams, Robert Coover e Philip K. Dick sullo sfondo delle teorie di Lukács sul romanzo storico, di Koselleck sui tempi storici e di Lyotard sulle metanarrazioni.
