The essay analyses the visual apparatus of posthumous books by and about Isadora Duncan published immediately after her tragic death. The autobiography, the memoirs of a few witnesses, a photo book in her honour, collections of her theoretical texts: the books that came out between 1927 and 1929 in Europe and America collect her experience of art and life and stand as a composite testament consisting of words and images. Looking at the volumes as documents of a network of relationships and an exchange between visual culture, dance culture, and the publishing market, this essay dwells in particular on the photographs and editing strategies, analysing the images as instruments of transmission of Isadora Duncan’s dance.
