The school library in Italy is defined, in accordance with guidelines elaborated by IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions), as an educational environment where reading practice is fostered in all its forms, even if the notion of a “school library” suggests purpose-driven reading. Motivated by the concept of “historical-educational heritage”, which distinguishes the very essence of SIPSE, a census was made of the existing book heritage in school libraries of all levels throughout Italy, starting from specific and significant local collections. The contribution aims to present the work carried out and the results achieved so far.

Abstract
The school library in Italy is defined, in accordance with guidelines elaborated by IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions), as an educational environment where reading practice is fostered in all its forms, even if the notion of a “school library” suggests purpose-driven reading. Motivated by the concept of “historical-educational heritage”, which distinguishes the very essence of SIPSE, a census was made of the existing book heritage in school libraries of all levels throughout Italy, starting from specific and significant local collections. The contribution aims to present the work carried out and the results achieved so far.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
